I've tried many circle cutters in the past but none have come close to cutting a decent circle the way this one has.

Martha Stewart Crafts - Circle Cutter

It cuts out circles from 1in to 5 7/8in diameter and guide marks printed on the transparent disc let you easily plot different size circles in 1/16in increments.

The proof is in the circle - found it @ Walmart for $15!

I came across Barnaby Barford amazing work while surfing this afternoon (my actual work at hand was a bit tedious - needed a break).

He works with both mass-market and antique found porcelain figurines, cutting up and exchanging elements or adding to them and repainting them, to create sculptures which are often sinister and sardonic but invariably humorous.

How to spend seven dollars in ten seconds - buy a second hand Nintendo DS game without putting any thought into your purchase! That's the best explanation I could come up with, but it's been a great way to spend a snowy Saturday evening - raising ducks, sheep and any thing you could possibly buy for under fifty bucks.
I think it's similar to FarmVille played on Facebook (but don't quote me) and now if you will excuse me I must check the hen house before there's mutiny - this game is addictive!

After working on a few projects that were way too tedious for a Friday afternoon, a pit stop on the way home, to my favorite thrift shop was in order. Letting myself wonder the shop, not looking for anything specific, is my ideal method of relaxation (don't judge please). And wouldn’t you know it I scored this beauty.

No electrical outlet needed - this baby is old school manual and in a beautiful turquoise shade enamel finish to boot.

She's a little dinged up along the sides and bottom but in prefect working condition.

And that’s all that matters!

A Christmas Eve gift from my sisters - it’s also their idea of a practical joke! Yup that’s an authentic Charlie Brown Christmas tree with one red bulb and wooden base support slats!

There was however a little accident and we lost the red bulb - fell and being glass smashed into a million tiny pieces. It will be replaced in time for next Christmas I'm sure! I might even make a felt blanket for the base, but right now I really like the raw wooden slats.

Speaking of a blanket...another sister thought she would push the joke even further and included a full size Linus safety blanket (my nephew is holding the box below). This blanket is actually part of Project Linus; an organization who provide handmade blankets and afghans to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need of a new blanket.

Hope everyone had a great day filled with as much food, fun and laughter as we did.

Pearlesent Experiment...

I wasn’t happy with the shade of pink acrylic paint I mixed for this custom monogram, luckily it’s for someone I know, so I decided to experiment a bit. I pulled out these pearlescent watercolors, applied a thin layered wash over the flat base colour and was pleasantly surprised with the end result!

It blended nicely over my base coat of pink acrylic paint, I now have nice iridescent highlight that I hope will stand out even more once I apply my sealant.

For the record I have no affiliation with the manufacture of this product, I did a post about these paints here when I found them at my local art supplies shop. I know there are other brands of shimmer paints on the market but these are really inexpensive, works exceptionally well and I think would make a great last minute stocking stuff.

Hershey’s Candy Cane Kisses

If you haven't tried these or wondered if they were any good I would like to put all your concerns to rest - they are amazing! It all began with a sample package Monday afternoon and has lead to 2 full size bag in 4 days (yes I know very little self control).

Candy cane kisses are mint-flavored white chocolates with red stripes and crushed candy bits. I didn't think I was going to like them since I'm not a fan of candy canes, but this product won me over. They are from their seasonal line of kisses, so don't delay sampling a mini package and judge for yourself. Next on my "must sample" list the dark chocolate mint filled truffle kisses, love good holiday goodies!

It’s December 1st, and you know what that means...23 day left to shop and eat Christmas goodies to your hearts content! Because after that you know it’s going to be all about denial - the extra 10lbs gained and the empty pocket books (we never remember how it happened!). Basic Grey CURIO Paper - Chiffonier

I can’t decide which collection I love more, this one or Conservatory from 7 Gypies. If anyone has dough’s about the Curio or Wander collection from Basic Grey let me put them to rest – they are both worth every penny.

I love going to art supply stores – my pocket book not so much. Problem is once I walk thought the door all supply budgets are automatically forgotten and must have madness takes control....well that's my story anyway!
So look what I found yesterday while looking at some very pricey acrylic inks

Niji Pearlescent watercolor cake paint set

They are shimmery watercolors that can be used alone or with other water based media. After testing them out I understood why they were placed in the ink section. If you do calligraphy or rubber stamping these little cakes helps illuminate and/or highlight your image nicely, just add water and voila!

They work amazingly on black paper since most of the colours have a nice opacity (a couple are transparent) and they layer really well.

The sets come in either 16 or 21 and I love the fact that its paint not powder because I hate cleaning that stuff up once it’s been blow everywhere. The price isn’t to shabby and my pocket book wasn’t too badly hurt.

ROBO Love...

How do you spend another cold and gloomy Sunday afternoon – learning how to use something you received almost a year ago! I was given this lovingly used Craft ROBO last Fall, but until this afternoon I had no idea how it worked. After seeing this post by Scrapper Creations (not the same machine but the same concept), I was inspired to finally sit still and test out this baby.

It took a few good YouTube tutorials, patience and a lot of trial and error, but the final result was well worth it. The ease of being able to design something in Adobe Illustrator and cut or draw (yes that's right you can use a ballpoint pen instead of a blade with it) from the same platform was so much easier I found than using the original Craft ROBO software.

The newest model of this machine is the QuicKutz Silhouette SD Digital Craft Cutter and had been on my wish list for a while. It connects to your computer and uses the fonts you already have so there is no need to invest in cartrages like other diecut systems. You can also create your own designs or purchase from the Silhouette designs site.

Mine may not be the latest model but I’m totally in love!

Best way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon – screen printing.

It’s a really messy process but the end result is worth it. My problem is waiting patiently for the ink to dry thoroughly – I usually lose a few because I haven’t waited long enough.

I guess that's all a part of the process!

I am the proud owner of Taschen’s latest fashion title release: Emilio Pucci

I became a huge fan of Pucci's work after stumbling across another book (now out of print) while doing research for a design project in collage.
It was instant love – his flare for bold graphics and color inspired me and I wanted to lean as much as I could about this amazing Italian designer.

Well it arrived this morning via UPS in the biggest box ever delivered to my home. I was so excited when I ordered it (early birthday gift) that I didn't acknowledge the books dimensions - it HUGE! I have no idea where I’m going to put it since my coffee table is too narrow for this one.

I recently bought for $1.00 a shoe box full of very old cancelled stamps.

Last night I finally had a chance to sift through the box and came across these. They caught my attention because of the bold graphics and intricate details on such a tiny area, without the aide of computer software [most of them are dated 1949,1966 and 1973].

I hope to use them in art projects and started this small mixed media one with a few of the multiples.

This is the result of being given the day off with no prior plans.

Did I need another purse...well...! But who could resist this cool label complete with recycle symbol and the promise of a free cosmetic case – apparently not me! The line is called Lily Bloom and it’s made by Rosetti whose purses are usually really nice and very affordable. I know because this isn’t my first Rosetti but that’s a whole other story.

The outer fabric is made of recycled plastic bottles - key selling point and the case ain't to shabby either.

The site only has this info but I’m hoping that will change - looking forward to seeing what else they might come out with for this line.

I’m always being asked how I store my stamps, so since I was in the process of cleaning my work area I decided to snap a few shots of my storage system.

Now keep in mind I don’t have many wood mounted stamps – I’m a huge fan of clear acrylic and un-mounted rubber stamps (for the exact reason they are easier to store).

In steps clear plastic cd cases and a thrift store find clear (also plastic) storage rack. That’s it - all my stamps are stored right there!

The few wood mounted stamps I own are directly above in this made for files wall mounted system (that’s my entire collection in those two shelves).

I’ve decided I'm on strike today so I guess I’ll finish cleaning tomorrow - want to go play with some glass beads instead.

I decided to display it an inexpensive, unfinished, keepsake box – this way there’s a place for me to put the cute note card it came in and future postcards.

To Stitch or Not to Stitch...

Thought I‘d be adventurous today and finally try my hand at this – the Japanese Sashiko embroidery technique.

I purchased this kit a few months ago and it's been sitting on my desk in a basket every since.

The reason for this is the fact that I couldn't bring myself to open the packages of thread - the colors are so amazing to just look at.

But I guess I could always buy a few more strictly for visuals!

I’ll post it when I’m finished - in the mean time take a look at the cool stuff being made over at the flickr Sashiko Pool.

But it was worth it - I learned that I am a lot more patient than I thought.

This was a lot of fun to make - though I still have a lot to learn about sizing when using a pattern. I made this one a tad larger that it should be but that hasn't deterred me. There are so many more patterns I want to try - I can't wait to get started on another one!
